Project Description: “Your Right to Life” – Combating the Negative Effects of Harmful Traditional Practices in Upper Egypt

As part of its ongoing efforts to combat harmful traditional practices and promote human rights in Upper Egypt, Ana Masry Association for Development and Training in Qena is implementing the “Your Right to Life” project in partnership with Plan International Egypt.

The project aims to reduce the negative impacts of harmful traditional practices, such as female genital mutilation and child marriage, by empowering local communities, raising awareness of women’s and children’s rights, and supporting the shift toward positive social practices that respect human dignity.

This project serves as a model for integrating efforts between civil society and international institutions to combat gender-based violence and establish a more aware community culture that rejects harmful practices through grassroots work and building effective local partnerships.

“Aman” Initiative in Hijaza Qably

As part of the “Your Right to Life” project to combat the negative effects of harmful practices including child marriage and female genital mutilation in Upper Egypt, Ana Masry Association, funded by Plan International Egypt, implemented the “Aman” initiative in Al-Awari, Hijaza Qably. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the dangers of female genital mutilation and child marriage, and to correct false societal beliefs.

The initiative targeted women and girls in Hijaza Qably through interactive and awareness activities, emphasizing their right to a safe and dignified life.
