Promoting Action to Combat Violence Against Women Project
Project Overview
The project “Enhancing Community Action to Combat Violence Against Women in Upper Egypt” responds to an urgent need to address a deep social challenge: gender-based violence. The project aims to empower local communities to build effective and sustainable responses to combat violence against women through three main pillars:
Capacity Building: Providing specialized training for community leaders, institutional representatives, and volunteer youth to enhance their understanding of prevention and protection mechanisms, and rights-based approaches to women’s issues.
Awareness Raising: Implementing comprehensive awareness campaigns across villages and centers in Upper Egypt, using interactive and artistic tools to change stereotypes and misconceptions related to women’s roles and rights.
Strengthening Coordination Among Stakeholders: Establishing and activating dialogue platforms including representatives from civil society, government bodies, religious leaders, and executive agencies, aiming to develop local policies and more effective and sustainable collective response mechanisms.
The project seeks to create long-term behavioral and social change by supporting a nurturing environment that respects women’s dignity and opposes all forms of discrimination and violence, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
